Poison Study (Study #1)
Maria V. Snyder
October 1, 2005 | Mira
Choose: A quick death…Or slow poison...
About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She'll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace-and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.
And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust-and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.
As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear...
I was compelled to pick this book up because I saw so many updates in my goodreads feed. I decided to do some research and by research, I mean stalk its goodreads page. Almost all of my goodreads friends and my favorite reviewers gave it 3 or plus stars. Khanh gave it 5 stars, so it MUST be amazing. If Khanh gives a book 5 stars, it probably shits: rainbows, unicorns and holo glitter.

I FEEL SMART | KAFKA

Kafka on the Shore
by Haruki Murakami
Vintage International Edition
August 2015
Status: Complete
Powered by two remarkable characters: a teenage boy, Kafka Tamura, who runs away from home either to escape a gruesome oedipal prophecy or to search for his long-missing mother and sister; and an aging simpleton called Nakata, who never recovered from a wartime affliction and now is drawn toward Kafka for reasons that, like the most basic activities of daily life, he cannot fathom.
As their paths converge, and the reasons for that convergence become clear, Haruki Murakami enfolds readers in a world where cats talk, fish fall from the sky, and spirits slip out of their bodies to make love or commit murder.

Even more surprisingly…she’s apparently a witch herself.           Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.
When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers. But the comet has another effect-it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town…and possibly the world.

*prays for patience when editing these horrid posts*

I'm reading a couple books and making 0 progress.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is on top of the list
I don't know why it's taking me ages to finish this book. It's a classic and loved by all. Is it because people spoiled it for me? Is it because kids were in charge? Is it the language? Probably the language. I really enjoyed how Golding described the island, it seemed like paradise. I guess it was the kids that bothered me.
